The above list of equipment ie standard, readily available earth-moving
• units which are sized to perform the maximum tasks required for the reclamation
processes involved. They are either owned by the applicant or are available locally
for hire at hourly rental rates. They may also be utilized upon a unit of work
performed basis. Other makes and sizes can perform the work required and, if various
equipment combinations are applied, the coat per cubic yard or acre reclaimed
(depending upon the appropriate reclamation unit) would be determined from the
prorated performance abilities. Due to the relatively small area involved and the
restrictions of confined working spaces, the availability/efficiency ratios of
earth-moving equipment will be much lower than are normally calculated under
conditions where maximum capacity can be obtained. This results in a higher cost per
unit work accomplished.
Summary of Equipment Costa for Reclamation
(See Table RP-1)
Bulldozing - Backfill
• Tractor cost of $90/hour from mobile equipment. Performance is
influenced by working conditions which require pushing backfill material up an
ever-increasing gradient as the highwall is filled. Access to the fill is available
only from the lower edge of the portal bench as filling proceeds. Backfilling the
roads between Hubbard Creek and the portal bench will require precise, deliberate
operation of equipment due to both side-slope considerations and the need to salvage
as much SPGM as possible from the material originally disposed on the berm during
initial road construction. Supplementary use of the front-end loader will aid in
distribution and transport of this material.
Productivity of the tractor will vary a great deal from handbook
performance standards, hence, volumetric coats have been estimated as follows:
Tractor Travel Speed = 2 mph on portal bench
1 mph on access road
Tractor Blade Capacity = 14 cubic yards
• Average Travel Distance = 300 feet on portal bench
75 feet on access road
1143
(Rev. 1-22-82)
