In brief, the revised West Pit water management program consists of the following
elements:
• Continued pumping of West Pit wells to maintain the ground water
elevation between 8578.5 and 8579.5 feet amsl to minimize ground water
level fluctuations as measured in the West Pit ground water well BF-5R
and prevent ground water outflow to the Rito Seco alluvial aquifer.
• During the period November to March each year, pumped ground water
will be stored in two engineered; lined ponds located within the West Pit
footprint.
• During the irrigation season (April to October), pumped ground water will
be transferred by buried pipeline to the Salazar Ranch, which is owned by
Newmont Realty, adjacent to the existing permit area to the west.
• Water transferred from the West Pit will be used as irrigation water at the
ranch.
• Seasonal irrigation will empty the West Pit irrigation ponds on an annual
basis prior to the end of the irrigation season allowing adequate storage
capacity for the non-irrigation period.
Battle Mountain Resources, Inc. 3
P:\Pmjmts\212-Ne nt(SanUris)\SanLuis\Per®t Ammdment- West Pit MamVe AVS Report&PDR\Te \PetmitMcendmevt_-dm December 2007
