Fall 2008 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
•
yY
1
r ?t
Figure 5. Northeastward view of a new rockfall/landslide on the east side of Sylvester Gulch above
currently mined Longwall Panel 25. Notice the light color of the fresh rock outcrop which is the
source area for the rockfall/landslide. Compare this to the small rockfall area in the left-central
portion of the image which suggests that this rockfall is considerably older than previously
discussed in the Spring 2008 Subsidence Monitoring Report.
•
i ' TC ?.•x't? ?? "
Figure 6. Eastward view of the new rockfall/landslide on the east side of Sylvester Gulch. Much of
the rockfall was captured by the upper drill road. The large boulder among the established
vegetation demonstrates that it has been there for many years and that this is a natural occurrence
in this area.
•
December 2008
Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
