A run-of-mine coal handling system which receives coal from the underground
conveyor near the mine portal, transports it to a rotary crusher, removes large rock
and other debris and stores the ROM coal prior to processing.
2. A coal preparation facility which processes ROM coal to remove the refuse material.
The major coal transportation and loading facilities included in this application are:
• 1. An overland conveyor system which transports the coal from the preparation facility
[o a storage area near the train loadout system.
2. A 25,000-ton slot coal storage facility near the train loadout location.
3. A solid refuse disposal system which collects the solid refuse and disposes of the
material in an acceptable fashion. The solid refuse disposal system actually has
two distinct streams within it. One stream is solid refuse (coal reject) disposed of by
placement in the Refuse Disposal Area located about 3.5 miles northeast of the "D"
Portal Area. The other stream is for solid refuse (trash) disposed of at a landfill
operation located about three miles northwest of the "D" Portal Area. For a
detailed discussion of these two streams, see Section IV.D, "Waste Transportation
and Disposal Facilities"
4. A railroad loadout facility.
IV.B Mine Portal Facilities
Structures and facilities which are located near the mine portals and are used in conjunction with
the underground mining activities include:
1. The face-up structures for protecting the mouths of the portal tunnels (i.e., mine
entries).
