Rock -Mountain
Alaterials & Asphalt Inc.
19 10 RAND AVENUE
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80906
Mining Operation Plan
This site was established as an asphalt and conci -te production facility several years ago. All of the site
access has been previously established. There will not be any strippings or overburden piles in associa-
tion with this project.
1. Mining Methods: We will continue to operate the site as an asphalt plant. Mining will be con-
ducted in the stockpile area adjacent to the plant by removing the onsite material that is contained
in the area below the current grade of the site. The material will be stockpiled onsite for use in
future production of asphalt and concrete. The material will be excavated and stockpiled by the
use of loaders, dozers, haul trucks and conveyor belts. After the material is removed, the area will
be returned to the original grade and used for stockpile area.
2. Water Diversions and Impoundments: There are no additional water diversions or impoundments
planned for this project. Stormwater management is already established at this site and will not be
effected by the mining process.
3. The Size of Area to be Worked: The area of disturbance will be determined by the need for mate-
rial. However, the disturbance will be minimal in time because the area will be returned to its ex-
isting grade as soon as the construction grade material has been removed.
4. Timetable for the Operation: The life of the operation will depend on the demands of the con-
struction industry. We will remove and stockpile enough material to sustain a two to three year
supply based on projections for the upcoming years. Because this is an established site, the min-
ing area doesn't pose and effect to offsite visibility as it is already a fenced and secured area.
Nature of Gravel Deposit: The deposit is mostly construction grade sand with various small
amounts of cobblestone type rock scattered throughout. All materials will be used onsite in the
production of asphalt and concrete.
The mining in this site will have very minimal effects on the surrounding area. The site is well estab-
lished, fenced and very secure. There will be no disturbance to stormwater management or surrounding
properties. This project will decrease the traffic impacts in the area as we will be able to use onsite mate-
rials rather than bringing materials from an outsite source and increasing truck traffic.
PHONE (719)473-3100 0 FAX (719)473-3109
