STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
January 9, 2008
Brian Watterson
Twentymile Coal Company
Foidel Creek Mine
29515 Routt County Road No. 27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
RE: November 2008 Discharge Monitoring Report, CO-0027154
Dear Mr. Watterson:
COLORADO
D I V IS I ON OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
Harris D. Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) submitted NPDES Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR), November
2008, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment CDPS permit no. CO-0027154 on
December 24, 2008.
TCC reported that outfall 003A discharged during the last three weeks of November. No parameter
exceedances were reported. During an inspection at the mine site the State inspector observed flow at
Outfall 5A that was no going through the flume. It was speculated that this trace flow was undercutting the
flume but did not appear to be passing through the culvert under the rail road. TCC subsequently sealed
the bank on the upstream side of the flume with bentonite. TCC collected water quality samples at Outfall
005A for November 2008. No exceedances were reported for Outfall 005A. Review of the DMR form
initiates a question on the reported average for Total Suspended Solids. The form shows the 30-day
average for TSS as "8 7", yet the daily maximum is 8. The Division suspects the value in the average
column to be a typo. Please correct the TSS average value.
None of the other outfalls under this NPDES permit discharged during November 2008.
The reports are in compliance with Rule 4.15.13(2)(iii). Thank you for prompt submittal of these reports
Sincerely,
Janet H Binns
nvi ental Protection Specialist II
C:/jhb/C82056/DMRs/2008/Nov 000027154.doc
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
