Radabaugh: 303-526-2600
Dear Ms. Radabaugh:
?'') ,-' P "
_ .

Your letter dated November 14, 2008, requesting renewal of the above referenced substitute
water supply plan to cover depletions caused by an existing gravel mining operation has been
reviewed. The required fee of $257 for the renewal of this substitute water supply plan has been
submitted. The original plan was approved on August 7, 2003 and it was most recently approved in a
letter dated January 22, 2007.
Plan Operation
The Green/Croissant Pit is located in Section 30, Township 5 North, Range 67 West of the 6th
P.M. in Weld County and is comprised of approximately 212 acres. According to your letter, mining is
finished in Cell 1 and 2 and will be completed in Cell 3 in 2009. Mining in Cell 4 is expected to begin in
2009 and will continue through 2010. During 2009 and 2010, there will be evaporative losses from
mined cells, a dewatering trench, settling ponds, and wash ponds. Operational losses will include
water retained in aggregate removed from the site, water used in concrete batching, and water used
for dust suppression.
Depletions
The anticipated annual net depletion for this plan is 103.03 acre-feet for 2009 and 105.28 acre-
feet for 2010. According to the monthly breakdown you provided, the 2009 depletions are estimated as
74.61 acre-feet of evaporation from 23 acres of exposed water surface during January through March
and 30.50 acres of exposed water surface from April through December, 2.95 acre-feet of water lost
with the mined product (100,000 tons), 7.06 acre-feet used for dust suppression, and 18.41 acre-feet
used in concrete batching (200,000 cubic yards). The 2010 depletions are estimated as 76.86 acre-
feet of evaporation from 30.50 acres of exposed water surface, 2.95 acre-feet of water lost with the
mined product (100,000 tons), 7.06 acre-feet used for dust suppression, and 18.41 acre-feet used in
concrete batching (200,000 cubic yards). The evaporation calculations were based on the entire
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
www.water.state.co.us
i
