June 5, 2008
Berhan Keffelew
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street - Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Sir:

R
JUN 0 0 2008
Division or Necic,;nation,
Mining and Safety
This letter is to comment on the Mine Life Extension application that the Cripple Creek
& Victor Gold Mining ompany has presented.
Again the company is faced with people who have moved into an area where mining has
always been, and begin to complain and become emotional over trivial issues.
1) They moved into- and continue to live in- an area which is zoned for mining
activities and historically so.
2) The property is privately owned and has had scars from previously mined
areas on it for years and years.
3) This mining company has proven to be reliable on issues of air quality, water
quality, environmental problems, historical buffer issues, wildlife
conservation and reclamation bonds and activities
4) In many, many ways the surface mining is much safer for the employees than
the underground mining. It is also safer for the hikers and tourists, as there
are no hidden underground areas for caving or ground failure.
5) The economic picture generated by the CC&V jobs, payroll, benefits and even
donations to the tri county area is unequaled.
My family as well as my husbands family, has been in the mining industry in this mining
district since 1890. This includes several phases of mining, leasing, underground, etc.
Mining is necessary and is an accepted way of life in this area. The CC&V Company did
not have a choice in WHERE the gold is found. But they are limited in mining in the
area that it IS found. There will be minor changes in the contour of the land, but look
around, there have been so many changes in the area in recent years from other phases of
life. This is a professional company that knows how to mine and does it right. In the 100
plus years this was not always true. We encourage you to decide favorably for the
extension request of Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company.
Sincerely yours,
Dewey and Tish Allen
P.O. Box 105
Victor, CO 80860
JR?
