III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a Partial Inspection of the Bowie No. 1 Mine, conducted by Marcia Talvitie of the DRMS on 03
December 2008. Basil Bear represented the operator, Bowie Resources LLC, during the inspection. The
weather was partly cloudy, windy and cold.
R.O.M. Pile
Reclamation appears to be substantially complete at the site. Work was under way to excavate the fill
material covering the culvert pipe that has carried Stevens Creek beneath the access road. Once the
culvert is removed and the stream channel is reclaimed, access to the ROM pile will no longer be
possible from the east.
Equipment tracks observed criss-crossing the area during the November inspection have been
obliterated.
West Mine
Ponds W-1 and W-2 were dry. The reclaimed slope was bare of snow, although snow could be seen at
surrounding higher elevations.
Well Field
The topsoiled area had been recently hydro-seeded and -mulched. A thin layer of snow covered
much of the area.
Loadout Area
Approximately 60 empty, overturned barrels have been placed near the RR track in the pond area. The
barrels have not been observed during previous inspections. There was no visible petroleum
contamination of the soils. The source of the barrels is unknown.
Trucks and equipment owned by a drilling contractor were stored on the shop level. One trailer held a
portable petroleum storage tank that appeared to have its own secondary containment. The upper
levels continue to be used to store various types of equipment and material.
East Mine
Grading and backfill of the east bench above the former Crushing / Screening bench was nearing
completion. The contractor and BRL are still working through the final material balance (cut/fill) for the
site.
The Shop and Warehouse bench continues to be used for the contractor's staging area.
This completes the December 2008 inspection report for the Bowie No. 1 Mine.
Bowie No. 1 Mine C-1981-038 03-Dec-2008
