2006 Edna Mine Vegetation Sampling Report
6. Summary
This report shows that vegetation at The Pittsburg and Midway Coal Mining Company's Edna
Mine West Ridge (topsoiled) and Moffat (topsoiled) Bond Release Units met the standards
established in the mine reclamation plan in the second year of monitoring (detailed in Sections 3
and 4 respectively). Additionally, both of these areas exceeded the herbaceous vegetation
cover in the established reference area. The West Ridge & Moffat Non-Topsoiled Bond release
Unit did not meet the standard established in the mine reclamation plan for this area (47% total
vegetation cover); however, it also exceeded the herbaceous vegetation cover of the reference
area.
This report also concluded that the replacement snowberry sage reference area (included after
a portion of the original area was mowed in 2006) is an adequate replacement and does not
differ significantly in cover or production from the rest of the reference area or the area that it
was chosen to replace.
Habitat Management, Inc. 65 October 19, 2006
