2006 Edna Mine Vegetation Sampling Report
' 4. Moffat Topsoiled BRU
The Moffat Topsoiled BRU encompasses approximately 215 acres. The pre disturbance
vegetation communities were 83% snowberry sage and 17% oak mountain shrub.
Sample adequacy for vegetation cover was obtained in this unit with 30 transects. Mean
herbaceous vegetation cover was 39.7%. This is significantly higher than the mean for the
reference area (24.1 %). Thus, the Moffat Topsoiled BRU exceeds the liability release standard
for herbaceous cover. See Tables 4-4 and 4-5 for absolute and relative cover data for this unit.
' Sample adequacy for production was not obtained in this unit with 40 transects. However, as
outlined in the sampling plan, it is assumed that the central limit theorem applies and the mean
production level was established. Mean herbaceous production was 185.2 g/m2 or 1652.5
lbs/ac (Table 4-6). This is significantly higher than the mean for the reference area of 80.2 g/m2.
Thus, the Moffat Topsoiled BRU exceeds the liability release standard for herbaceous
production.
As shown on Table 4-3, there were seven plant species with a minimum of 3% and maximum of
40% relative cover present in this unit. Because more than five species were present, the
combined relative importance requirement is automatically satisfied. Thus, the Moffat Topsoiled
BRU meets the liability release requirements for diversity.
The shrub density requirement was satisfied in 2005; therefore, shrub density monitoring was
not performed in 2006.
4.1. Supporting Documentation
Tables 4-1 through 4-8 summarize vegetation data and statistical tests for the Moffat Topsoiled
BRU. Table 4-9 provides a list of the community plant species sampled at this BRU. Figure 4-1
is a site photograph, and Figure 4-2 is the transect location map.
The following tables and figures verify that the West Ridge Topsoiled BRU meets liability
release requirements.
Habitat Management, Inc. 37 October 19, 2006
