2006 Edna Mine Vegetation Sampling Report
3. West Ridge Topsoiled BRU
The West Ridge Topsoiled BRU encompasses approximately 22 acres. The pre-disturbance
vegetation communities were 83% snowberry sage and 17% oak mountain shrub.
Eighteen transects were required to obtain sample adequacy for herbaceous cover in this unit.
The reclaimed unit's mean herbaceous vegetation cover was 40.0%. This is significantly higher
than the mean for the reference area (24.1%). Thus, the West Ridge Topsoiled BRU exceeds
the liability release standard for herbaceous cover.
Sample adequacy for production was obtained in this unit with 25 transects. Mean herbaceous
L production was 149.6 g/m2 or 1,334.9 Ibs/ac. This is significantly higher than the mean for the
reference area of 41.643 g/m2 (371.6 Ibs/ac). Thus, the West Ridge Topsoiled BRU exceeds the
liability release standard for herbaceous production. See Table 3-4 and Table 3-5 for absolute
and relative cover data for this unit.
As shown in Table 3-3, there were seven plant species with a minimum of 3% and maximum of
' 40% relative cover present in this unit. Because more than five species were present in this unit,
the combined relative importance requirement is automatically satisfied. Thus, the West Ridge
Topsoiled BRU meets the liability release requirements for diversity.
3.1. Supporting Documentation
Tables 3-1 through 3-6 summarize vegetation data and statistical tests for West Ridge
Topsoiled BRU. Table 3-7 provides a list of the community plant species sampled at this BRU.
Figure 3-1 is a site photograph, and Figure 3-2 is the transect location map.
?- The following tables and figures verify that the West Ridge Topsoiled BRU meets liability
release requirements.
I Habitat Management, Inc. 25 October 19, 2006
