Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Re: Natural Soda, Inc., Nacholite Projec ermit N&M-1983-19 , Preliminary Adequacy Review of Technical
Revision No. 26 application, TR-26.
Dear Ms. Byrns,
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) has reviewed the application for a technical revision to
the above referenced 112 permit. The purpose of the technical revision is to add one core hole that will ultimately
be converted into either a dissolution surface aquifer monitor well or a subsidence monitor well, two additional
injection wells, two additional recovery wells and 6.61 acres additional surface disturbance for well pads
associated with the proposed wells. A review of the application has revealed a few issues and clarifications to
address.
1) Please describe what methods will be used to prevent cross contamination from one aquifer to another
assuming that multiple aquifers will be drilled through during well construction. Please include specific
details that describe each step of the well construction.
2) Please clarify if all access points are included in the proposed overall surface disturbance.
The technical revision cannot be approved until the issues are adequately addressed. Please submit a response to
the issues as soon as possible but no later than December 29, 2008, so the decision date of January 5, 2009 can be
met. If your response, or a written request for an extension of the decision date, is not received by December 29,
2008 then the request for the modification may be denied.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no. 970.241.2042.
Sincerely,
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Paul Daggett, BLM White River Field Office
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand JunctioDurango Active and Inactive Mines
