(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1986-007
INSPECTION DATE: 12/18/2008 INSPECTORS INITIALS: F"
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS for the Masonville Stone site. The inspection was prompted by a
citizen complaint of possible mining outside of the permit area. DRMS met with Glenn Southwick at the site at approximately 1045.
The site entrance is located on the south side of Larimer County 29 RD approximately 100 feet west of the intersection of 29 RD and
27 RD. The required postings were present at the site entrance.
This site is currently an active 110c sandstone/flagstone quarry. The active mining at the site at the time of the inspection was
occurring near the west center of the site. It did not appear that any mining had been taking place recently near any of the permit
boundaries. The boundary markers on the south side of the site were unable to be located during the inspection, and this has been
noted in this report as a problem to be corrected. The operator/property owner stated that although there had been no mining activity
outside the permit area, he has been intermittently constructing a single lane access road outside the southern boundary of the permit to
allow access to the west side of the hogback where he is planning on constructing a house in the future. This activity is taking place
outside of the permitted area on private land which is owned by the operator, but is not associated with the adjacent mining activities.
It is also noted that a 0.5 acre area was released from the north side of the site in 2005 after some corrective action reclamation was
completed. This area should also be defined. After all boundary markers have been re-established DRMS will revisit the site and GPS
the permit boundary for future reference. This information will be used to create an accurate updated site map. No other serious
problems were noted during the inspection, however, there were several smaller "housekeeping" issues that were pointed out to the
operator so they could be addressed before they become potential problems or violations. DRMS discussed the site, the problems
noted, and corrective actions with the operator. This concluded the inspection and DRMS left the site at approximately 1230.
Permit boundaries should be remarked and documentation of this provided to DRMS by January 31, 2009 to avoid possible violations
and penalties. DRMS will then revisit the site and GPS in the permit boundary for future reference.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Glenn Southwick
OPERATOR:
STREET:
13800 Silver Springs Rd
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Jav Em, WY 82219
cc: ?
