The 2 issues that have been addressed are:
1. Haul Road Location: the attached map shows the location of our new east access road, which
provides easier access to the middle and upper benches of the mining area. Originally, all mining
was done from the lower dig face; however, but as mining progressed the height of the dig face
became excessively high and unsafe. Dozing requirements to keep the dig face at a manageable
level become prohibitive. Therefore, the new access road was established to allow us to reclaim the
waste dumps in 3 lifts, keeping the dig faces at a height no higher than our loading unit can reach.
The overall mining plan and direction as shown in the original permit application have not changed.
2. Sediment Pond Alteration: The sediment pond which catches the runoff from the quarry was split
into 2 separate ponds due to the construction of the east access road. To the west of the new access
road remains a pond which appears large enough to contain the required runoff, to the east remains a
smaller pond which is much larger than is needed to contain the runoff from the small acreage that
reports to this pond. The east pond has an overflow pipe; the west pond will need to have an
overflow structure constructed. Included are some sketches, calculations and pictures to help
illustrate the issues and plans for the west pond.
3. Action Plan: As soon as the weather will allow next spring, we plan to do a detailed survey of the
west pond to insure its size, to enlarge the pond if needed, to reconfigure the pond to allow routine
cleaning with a front end loader and to construct the overflow structure.
