TMI Trapper Mine Bond Release (SL-8) pg. 2
Backfilling and grading, drainage reestablishment, and surface water runoff control has been
demonstrated to be in compliance with the approved DRMS mining permit and DRMS
regulations. The final backfilling and grading configurations throughout the affected areas
closely resemble the approximate original contour of the land before mining, and conform to
TMI's approved post-mine topography (permit Map 12, Post-Mining Topography). DRMS has
routinely inspected the areas subject to this Phase I release.
This bond release requests applies to Phase I release for 476.6 acres of land (SL-8). No reduction
in the amount of bond held is sought with the bond release application, only a reduction in the
reclamation liability amount.
OSM finds TMI has met or exceeded the requirements for Phase I bond release on the 476.6
acres noted above; and OSM hereby provides concurrance to release the bond acreage and
amount set forth in the DRMS Proposed Decision.
DRMS currently holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $20,606,900. As noted above, TMI
has not requested the release of any bond monies held, only a reduction in the amount of
reclamation liability. DRMS will release Phase I liability only, retaining the current performance
bond amount of $20,606,900. DRMS has determined that this bond amount is adequate to ensure
completion of the remaining reclamation and environmental monitoring responsibilities.
Thank you and your staff for coordinating this Federal mine bond release through the DFD.
Please direct any questions concerning this bond release action to Christine Belka,
Environmental Protection Specialist, at cbelka@OSMRE.gov or to (303) 293-5020.
Sincerely,
James.
