• Surface Mine Backfill Areas
Several mine areas will be backfilled with overburden material to approximately
the ground surface (East Cresson Mine Area and Schist Island portion of North
Cresson Mine Area). Additional backfill will also be placed to cover the
highwalls in the Schist Island portion of the North Cresson Mine area. These
backfilled areas will be reclaimed in much the same manner as the OSAs. Slopes
on the backfill connecting to the surrounding terrain will be graded to an overall
slope of approximately 2.5H:1 V. Slopes will vary in steepness within this overall
slope to generate irregular landforms. Drawing F-1 and the financial warranty
calculations have been conservatively developed based on an overall 2.5H:1 V
slope criterion for all backfill materials. Portions of the Main Cresson backfill
will be graded and reclaimed at an approximate 2H:1 V slope due to placement
constraints.
Benches with varying widths, spacing, and grades may be developed along the
slopes to control erosion, facilitate access for revegetation, or provide sites for
tree and shrub plantings.
Growth medium will be used to cover the overburden placed as backfill to the
extent it is available. Section 11.2 discusses that about six inches of growth
medium is expected to be available to cover the areas upon reclamation. Other
• material containing fines will be used if stockpiled growth medium is not
available. The growth medium will be sampled to determine the need for
amendments. Vegetation will be established according to the revegetation
procedures presented in Section 11.3.
Backfilling is anticipated to occur to approximately the ground surface in the two
mine areas of the MLE: Schist Island portion of the North Cresson Mine Area and
the East Cresson Mine Area. Backfill has been rescheduled to cover the hi hwalls
in the Schist Island portion of the North Cresson Mine area The backfill
information presented in this discussion is based upon information available at the
time of submittal of this document. Actual backfilling may vary according to
economic and mining conditions, and other factors, over the life of the mining
operations.
Portions of Main Cresson Mine are expected to be partially backfilled as shown
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
11-12
0
