Introduction to the proposed technical revision to Amendment No. 9 - North Cresson
updated backfilling re adinu and reclamation plan
Pursuant to Resolution 09-11-08 (28) of the Teller County Commissioners, conditionally
approving the Mine Life Extension (Amendment No. 9) Application for a Teller County
Mining Development Plan, Paragraph C of this Resolution states:
"This Mining Development Plan is conditioned on submittal, and operations in
the below described North Cresson Mine Area are conditioned on submittal and
approval, of an application for an Amendment of a Mining Development Plan
under and pursuant to Section 8. C. of the CCMOD Regulations, revising only the
proposed "high wall, " which amendment must satisfy Standard number 7.A.6,
Visual Resources. Further, any revisions to the proposed "high wall" shall be
included in the Applicant's submittal to the State, which should include financial
warranties that insure completion of the "high wall" remediation, and copies of
such submittal to the State, along with all other Submittal Requirements in
Section 3.D.1, shall be included with the application to Teller County. "
In keeping with this resolution, Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company (CC&V)
• has prepared this technical revision of the Amendment No. 9 submittal to update the
planning in the Schist Island portion of the North Cresson mining area.
Mining activities scheduled in Schist Island portion of North Cresson mining area for
approximately 2015 and 2016 (see revised drawing C-5) have been revised to provide for
additional overburden backfill placement in the area of the Schist island portion of the
North Cresson Mine that was previously shown as a remaining highwall within the City
of Cripple Creek view shed. This additional overburden placement during mining will
provide for an additional 17.5 acres of surface mine reclamation in this portion of the
North Cresson mine. (Total reclaimed acres for this portion of the North Cresson will be
adjusted from approximately 92 acres to approximately 109.5 acres.) This additional
overburden will be graded to create an additional reclaimable landform that will be
blended to the surrounding topography as shown in the revised post-mining topography
map (see revised drawing F-1). These regraded slopes will then be covered with a
minimum of six inches of growth medium and reseeded in accordance with the approved
reclamation plan. Reclamation surety costs to complete this additional regrading, growth
medium placement, and revegetation have been included in the updated reclamation
surely estimate included in this revised plan.
Several minor changes to the Amendment No. 9 approval are needed to complete this
revision and are included with this application. A summary of the updated information is
provided below:
