As noted
in previous correspondence and a number of on site visits, this permit was very complicated. These complications are
due in part to a number of past operators, historical mine features incorporated into the permit, several releases and the
past practice of allowing no contiguous sites to be under one permit. Staff has reviewed the original paper file from the
submission of the permit to the current owner Nuvemco.
Nuvemco will find attached to this letter pertinent documentation in regard to the release of historical and permitted
areas. The documentation notes the release of any sites on BLM and a number of sites by DRMS. The only site
technically still active under the permit is the Great Hesper site.
Staff and Nuvemco visited several areas on April I't that may or may not have been permit area. Most areas were
reclaimed many years ago or never touched and remain in historical condition. Nuvemco for their part did go back into a
few areas of concern and backfilled two portals even though responsibility under the permit was in question.
Based on the review of the file, sites inspected and additional work done staff is please to inform Nuvemco the all
affected areas under M-1978-222 except 0.5 acres of the Great Hesper site are released. With this release of acreage,
Nuvemco may proceed with the proposed amendment to the permit as discussed in previous meeting and correspondence.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no. 970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
G.
