Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article
33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on May 11, 2007, an application to
renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Munger Canyon Mine was considered
complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface
Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
CAM Mining LLC proposes to continue Underground coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land
located approximately 18 miles North of Loma, Colorado, in Munger Canyon (mine site) and V2 mile east of
Loma (rail loadout site). The permit area is further described as follows:
Mine site: Portions of Sections 27, 28, and 29, 33, T7S, R102W, 6th P.M., all in Garfield County.
Rail Loadout: Portions of Section 34, T2N, R3W, Ute PM, in Mesa County.
Portions of Section 3, TIN, R3W, Ute PM, in Mesa County.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Howard Canyon &
Garvey Canyon (Mine Area) and Mack (Loadout Area).
This application would allow for renewal of a valid existing permit for the Munger Canyon Mine and Loma
Loadout, Coal Mining and Reclamation Permit No. C-1981-020.
The renewal application does not propose additional surface disturbance and would not incorporate
additional lands into the permit area or otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation
measures. Current surface disturbance at the mine site in Munger Canyon is approximately 14.3 acres, with
approximately 4.5 acres of disturbance within a reclaimed rail loadout approximately rh mile east of Loma.
Operational activity is limited to occasional use of a small coal waste disposal site (for waste coal from the
nearby McClane Canyon Mine). There is no active mining at the Munger Canyon Mine.
A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder,
Office of
Office of Active and Inactive Mines
Mined Land Reclamation
