It is our
mission to oversee the well-being of our children, families and elders and in that same spirit, to
preserve the remaining, agricultural lands of Southern Costilla County zoned as such,
Agr'c li u tttral.
It has come to our attention that Battle Mountain Gold Company aka Newmont Mining is
proposing a new water supply augmentation plan that would change the use of the water supply
to divert water through. a pipeline to augment their pumps and sprinklers. They claim that the
groundwater being pumped from the pits is now testing "cleaner" than it was 18 years ago,
The purpose of this letter is to register our concerns in this matter and to protest the request of
Battle Mountain Gold Company aka Newmont Mining in their new augmentation plan until such
time as a full disclosure by aforesaid company can assure the residents of Southern Costilla
County that their mining operation is not harmful to persons, property, water, soil, other natural
resources and wildlife habitat.
Las Comailres de Sara Luis are concerned that water contwninated in the mining process and
laden with harmful chemicals will contaminate our water supply and the soils of Shalom Ranch
aka the Salazar Ranch adjacent to the Centennial School site where our children go to school and
near the town of San Luis. The Shalom Ranch is located in close proximity to persons that live
in and around the area and whom rely upon ground waiver to supply their domestic needs. The
