wack'S PUr?np Service
Rick Greenstreet P.O. Box 1563 Phone: 719-275-7384
Lic. #1331
February 1. 5, 2008
'Concerned Landowners
- --P-arkdale, CO -
Canon City, CO 81215 Fax: 719-269-1331
RE: Parkdale Quarry and Aggregate Mine effects of nearby groundwater wells
To concerned landowners in the vicinity of the Parkdale Mine:
It was brought to my attention that a number of residents in the Parkdale area were concerned
about potential affects on their groundwater wells due to the nearby mining activities. I was
contacted for consultation on behalf of the residents to provide my opinion of the potential
impacts.
Auer reviewing the features of the land, it was apparent that the mining activity is north of the
Arkansas River. For the groundwater wells north of the river, I would anticipate that some
impacts may exist as the mining progresses under the groundwater table. As they pump the
groundwater out of the mining pit, the groundwater in the area will experience draw down. The
closer a groundwater well is to the pit, the more likely it will experience this draw down. It is my
understanding that the water resource engineers, Applegate Group, have prepared a report from
the groundwater study they did in regards to the draw down effects.
For the groundwater wells south of the river, I would not anticipate that any mining activities at
the Parkdale site would have an effect. The Arkansas River is a major water boundary that
effectively controls the .groundwater elevation in the area. In my opinion, it is unlikely that the
mining would have a greater affect on the groundwater levels than the Arkansas River, except in
the immediate mining vicinity. The Arkansas River would disrupt any hydrologic connection
between the mining activities and the wells south of the river.
Please feel free to contact me about any questions or concerns you may have about this project.
Or if you would be interested in having your well tested.
Sincerely
Rick Greenstreet
Rick's Pump Service
