Dear Ms. Crosby: , This letter is in response to item 5 of the adequacy review comments dated November 28, 2006 and from our site visit December .14, 2007 There was a. discrepancy between the permit acreages fisted on the recent amendment application and the acreage listed as remaining in the DRMS files. The following. information is being submitted on behalf. of our client, Weld County, for the, Hokestra Pit (M-80-149) inWeld County,- Colorado: " The site is located in Sections, 2 and 23, Township,2 and 3 North, Range. 68 West, 6th Prime, Meridian , Weld County, Colorado. The general location of this operation is less. than one mile north, of- Firestone, Colorado. The Hokestra site has. undergone many phases of "mining and .development. Weld County applied for a mining and reclamation permit (M-198640) in July of 1980. The permit listed the acreage .as 239..861.. _ In 1993,.an. amendment :added-l7.0._acres-to ithe--Pxisting acreagehis area is referred to as Hokestra West. This area makes up the majority of the currently permitted area. Releases. through, amendment or release requests occurred in 1997 (77.6 acres), .2000. (10.6) and 2002 (5.9): The acreage according to the DRMS` files is 340.6. The "County believes the acreage is closer to 170 acres. It-was therefore decided by all parties to determine the: acreage that the County currently operates' under, the permit. and"to request an acreage reduction to this amount. The County collected' the deeds to the properties that are currently permitted. with the -DBMS, as the Hokestra sand,and gravel operation`and'the acreage adds up to approximately. 200 acres. We therefore request an acreage reduction request-with the following items: • Recognize that the area currently mined,under the Weld County permit is.approximately 200 acres. . • Release the 4.1 acres of lake and shoreline surrounding the lake in front of the Weld County Services building.
