Please inform the Division how topsoil/overburden piles will be
protected from the mining operation. If the pit is to be mined adjacent
to the piles, the topsoil piles may become unstable and slop failure
may occur if an adjacent buffer distance is not established.
The County intends to relocate existing topsoil piles around the
existing pit to a location on the east end of the permitted property. This
location is best suited for this interim purpose as it will be the last area
to be mined. As mining operations on the west end of the property
occur and prior to extraction of material on the east end of the
property, it is the intent of the County to begin reclamation operations
on the West end utilizing topsoil stockpiles from the east. As mining
progresses westerly from the existing pit, the topsoil/overburden will be
striped back a minimum of 2 times the depth of the pit. And the
open/working face of the pit will be sloped down away from the
topsoil/overburden piles at a maximum of 4h:1v slope.
Topsoilloverburden will not be stripped off until mining progress
towards storage piles. Also as mining progresses Westerly, North and
South boundary lines will be utilized as topsoil/overburden storage
areas with a minimum 50 ft buffer zone along the property lines.
Lake County Half Moon Pit
#M-77-071
Lake County, Colorado
