Answers to questions from letter dated September 14, 2007
Question #3
3. The division received comments from the office of the State engineer and the
Colorado Historical Society regarding the application. Please address the
comments noted in the letters and make any changes to the application as
necessary.
a. The Office of the State Engineer was notified prior to the submission of
the application and after the receipt of the comments. As stated, the
County does not anticipate exposing ground water at the floor of the pit as
ground water in the area is greater than 60 ft below the surface. As noted
in the application mining plan total depth of the pit floor should be no
greater than 45 feet. Lake County does not anticipate finding any natural
springs or other water flows through the property other than the
Templeton Ditch as noted before. The soil makeup is such that water will
dissipate rapidly into the soil floor of the pit no containment is anticipated.
The water used in the operation of the Asphalt batch plant from Parkville
Water District is municipal in nature and include a decreed use for
industrial purpose. Letter from Parkville attached herewith.
b. The Colorado Historical Society: During the excavation of the current pit
areas, no cultural resources have been found to date. It is not anticipated
that any cultural resources will be found. However if any human remains
are unearthed during excavation the County will comply with State law
CRS 24-80 part 13 as required.
Lake County Half Moon Pit
#M-77-071
Lake County, Colorado
