Partial site reclamation was
completed in 1998, and perennial vegetation has become established on the slopes. Pit run gravel
material is stockpiled on the pit floor and has been used sporadically over the years for repair and
maintenance of county roads in the Gateway area. No further mining is anticipated.
Preliminary plans have been submitted to BLM for converting portions of the Lumsden site to a
waste transfer station and other uses under an R&PP conveyance. If the conveyance is approved,
the pit floor area and remaining gravel stock pile would be utilized for new county facilities. We
concur with the modifications to the Reclamation Plan that would leave the access road and stock
piled gravel in place, and not revegetate the pit floor.
If the R&PP application is withdrawn or rejected, full reclamation of the Lumsden site shall be
completed. Reclamation procedures and other requirements in the free use permit would then be
applicable. We will release the FUP upon completion of the R&PP conveyance.
If you have any questions, please contact Scott Gerwe at 244-3077.
RF-C,P /
DEC 11; 2007
Division of Reclx„';}ation,
Mining and Nafe: y
Sincerely,
?
Ca'4hene Robertson a-
Field Manager
cc: Stacey Mascarenas, Mesa County Public Works
