Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
V` v
Re: May Day Mine Permit M-1981-185, Bond Recalculation for Permit Transfer SO-2.
Dear Mr. Clements,
I have recalculated the reclamation costs of the above-named permitted mining operation, based
on the existing and anticipated site conditions, and the current rates for equipment, labor and fuel.
The recent inspections noted increased portal activities, and the recent annual report states that
certain underground activity is anticipated, which will lead to near term increases in surface
disturbance. These factors all contribute to the current bond increase. I have separated the task
items for the three portals, so that it is clear to see the possible reduction in the bond if portions of
the site are reclaimed (such as the Lamb Portal).
Please review the enclosed sheets and contact me promptly if you notice any errors or omissions,
since these figures are preliminary. Please note that this Division is authorized and obligated to
periodically review the bonds of all permitted operations, and require that additional bond be
posted if recalculations indicate. The present bond amount is $5,421. The enclosed packet shows
the new bond amount needed is $10,881, which is an increase of $5,460 over the present amount.
The new amount must be provided within 60 days. If you have questions about the figures,
please contact me to discuss them, well before the end of the 60-day period, since the bond
revision process may take some time.
The existing bond consists of First National Bank of Durango CD No. 24457, in the amount of
$5,421. If you have questions about the types of bonds that are accepted by this Division or
require new bond forms, please contact Ms. Elizabeth Taliaferro at the Division's Denver office
(see letterhead address above), or at her direct phone: 303-866-4084. I can be reached at the
Division's Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio, Room 315, Durango, CO 81301; phone
970-247-5193.
Sincerely,
1 ;.t
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cont.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
