Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District
e
220 Water Avenue • Berthoud, CO 80513 • 970-532-7700 • fax 970.532-0942
November 15, 2007
Mr. Patrick Fischer
CEMEX
P.O. BOX 529
Lyons, Colorado 80540
Dear Mr. Fischer:
o#I,'
Nov 1,9
Division o f®®/
Minim an Wifely °n,
The Northen Colorado Water Conservancy District (Northern Water) is committed to
maintaining the conveyance systems that are used for delivery of Colorado-Big Thompson
Project water to the water users. The Boulder Feeder Canal that traverses the property owned by
CEMEX southeast of Lyons has been determined to have seepage of unacceptable magnitude,
especially south of the "haul road bridge" in a berm area.
In an effort to curtail this seepage, Northern Water is in the process of removing material from
the bottom and banks of the canal where the surface seepage was detected. Prior to April 1, 2008,
this section of canal will have a layer of clay placed on the bottom and canal banks two-feet in
depth. This clay will be placed in 6- to 8-inch lifts and will be compacted with a mechanical
sheeps-foot compactor. The final step in this work will be to cover the new clay lining with 6- to
12-inches of sandstone rubble rock to protect the clay from erosion caused by water flowing in
the canal.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this work, please feel free to contact me at
(970) 532-7700.
Sincerely,
Roge A. Sinden
Distribution Systems Department Manager
cps
