RULE 2 PERMITS <br />Table 2.04.7-7 is a description of the site numbers by investigation and description of the type of sample <br />location for surface water. Map No. 32 presents these sites for the period of record 1974 through the <br />present. Many of the sites were sampled only twice during the recent past by Leonard Rice Consulting <br />Water Engineers (1979) and the Colowyo Coal Company in 1981. These data are presented in a later <br />section but no analysis of means, minimums or maximums are possible due to the lack of data points. <br />These data are useful, however, in showing the wide variation in quantity and quality and will be <br />discussed in the Surface Water Quality Section. <br />Additional data collected by Colowyo Coal Company for Taylor Creek and Goodspring Creek since 1981 <br />indicates the same wide variations in both quantity and quality. The wide variation is in response to <br />seasonal runoff, however, the response and effects on concentration showed a greater variation during the <br />extremely high runoff years of 1984 and 1985. This information is available in the Annual Reclamation <br />and Hydrology Reports submitted to the CDRMS for the period 1983 through the present. <br />Permit Area <br />Surface water in the mine area is limited to Streeter Gulch, Streeter Pond, East Taylor Gulch, East Taylor <br />Pond, West Pit Pond, Warehouse Pond and sediment sump, Work Area Pond, three evaporative sewage <br />ponds, Section 16 Pond, Prospect Pond and Gulch A Pond. Three additional detention ponds are located <br />at the Loadout Area. All ponds, with the exception of the warehouse/sewage pond complex, are <br />sedimentation ponds and respond only to runoff related events. The ponds are designed to contain or treat <br />a 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event. Additionally, water flowing off of the reclaimed lands is retained <br />by contour furrows, revegetated slopes and a number of small depressions/stock ponds. A number of <br />permanent drainage channels and temporary drainage channels will also be incorporated into the final <br />reclaimed landscape to route water efficiently to sediment ponds.
