KIOWA COUNTY
GRAY PIT #M-1990-148
MINING PLAN
REVISED 11/18/08
The small pit in the creek bed is the work basin. The work basin is approximately 40'x 80' in
size. The sand and gravel is extracted and loaded into trucks and then transported onto the
roads. The gravel is pushed up and down the stream into the work basin. When the gravel is
removed a good distance from around the work basin we will move up and down the creek
bed. This process will be repeated. The area around the basin where the gravel is removed will
range from 3' to 5' foot deep. The gravel will be piled on site and stored until needed.
An opening will be maintained in the inlet or upstream side of the basin to allow the flow of
water to come into the basin when the creek runs. An opening will be maintained in the outlet
or downstream side of the basin to let the water flow out of the basin. The water will be
allowed to flow through the inlet and outlet to back fill the basin. The basin will then be filled
with new sand and gravel.
When the mining of the creek is finished and to maintain the slope that is required the sides of
the work basin will be graded.
The grass seed mix will remain the same as the original permit application and will be planted in
the early spring. Tamarisk and other weeds will be monitored and controlled by mowing and
spraying. The trail road leading from the county road to the stock pile will be seeded along with
the rest of the working site. Willows will be planted along the inside portion of the pit along
the creek banks to help stop erosion. The willows will be saline tolerant and have root
seedlings.
