Eagle Mines C-1981-044
12 November 2008 li
Pg2/2
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - Sediment Ponds 9-P2 and 9-P3 are a series of ponds on
the east side of the site for old, reclaimed areas. Both Pond 9-P2 and Pond 9-P3 were
dry (only Pond 9-P3 is an NPDES discharge point). Both pond embankments were
well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on either pond embankment at the time of the
inspection. There is a belt-lined ditch that connects the two ponds. This ditch
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
- Sediment Ponds SH-P1 and SH-P2, by the old farm shop, were both dry at the time of
the inspection. Both embankments were well vegetated and appeared to be
stable. No erosional problems were noted on either pond embankment at the time
of the inspection.
- Sediment Pond 5A-PI, just below the 5A portals was dry at the time of the
inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable.
No erosional problems were noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection. The ditch from the 100,000 gallon water tank above the portal bench
appeared to be stable as well. There were two minor slump areas on the
embankment of the pond that have been repaired and appear to remain stable.
- Sediment Ponds 9-P1 and 9-P6, by the newly permitted solid waste disposal area,
were both dry at the time of the inspection. These ponds collect the runoff from the
solid waste disposal area and the adjacent refuse pile. Both pond embankments
were well vegetated and appeared to be stable. No erosional problems were noted
on either pond embankment at the time of the inspection.
Backfilling and Grading: - The backfilled #4 portal area appeared to be stable at the
time of the inspection. There was no noticeable settling or cracking and there were
no erosional problems. There is not a lot of vegetation growing on the regraded
slope.
- The solid waste disposal area is well graded and there was no noticeable settling or
cracking in the backfill.
Processing Waste: - The refuse pile by the solid waste disposal area was well graded
and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. The pile appears to have
positive drainage and there was no water pooling on the surface of the pile. There
were no erosional problems noted at the time of the inspection.
Topsoil: - All of the topsoil piles were well vegetated and appeared stable at the time
of the inspection. There were no erosional problems noted on any of the piles.
Overall the mine appears to be in good condition.
