• 2.05.4 <br />Topsoil stockpile A (previously A, B and C) contains 111,900 cubic yards and <br />will be spread over 63.1 acres which will provide an approximate uniform <br />stable thickness of over 12-inches. Topsoil stockpiles D & E contain 5,300 <br />cubic yards and will be spread over the 7 acre gob pile area which will <br />provide an average replacement depth of approximately 6-inches. Additional <br />topsoil will be salvaged from the gob pile founding which will supplement the <br />6-inch topsoil replacement depth. The 12-inch topsoil depth should provide <br />adequate depth for the establishment of aself-sustaining cover of grasses, <br />fortis and shrubs. The self-sustaining vegetation is appropriate for the <br />postmining land use of rangeland and wildlife habitat. The 6-inch depth for <br />the gob pile area is marginal, however the actual replacement depth in this <br />area will increase as additional topsoil is salvaged. <br />Topsoil stockpile F will contain 24,000 cubic yards. It will be spread over the <br />22 acres of the reclaimed unit train loadout to a depth of approximately 0.6 <br />feet. <br />The regraded and topsoiled surface will reestablish the surface water <br />• drainage system by returning the area to the approximate original contours. <br />The regraded surfaces will be ripped if necessary to relieve compaction and <br />to provide for root penetration. Topsoil will be placed and spread with either <br />scrapers or a front end loader and truck equipment spread. The topsoil will <br />be spread with a track dozer. Handling topsoil in such a manner will <br />minimize deterioration of the biological, chemical, and physical properties of <br />the topsoil and will prevent excess compaction and contamination of the <br />topsoil. Topsoil will not be handled when saturated either during the initial <br />stripping, spreading or final grading. Handling sticky or plastic soils in a <br />saturated state will reduce the quality of the topsoil by degrading the physical <br />characteristics. <br />Nutrients or other soil amendments will be applied to the redistributed topsoil <br />if shown to be required by soil tests based upon known plant nutrient <br />requirements. Rates of nutrient application will be determined by soils tests <br />of the topsoil prior to seeding. Soil will be tested for pH, phosphorus, <br />potassium, texture class, electrical conductivity, sodium absorption ratio and <br />nitrogen. <br />• <br />PR-06 2.05 - 48 - 7/01 <br />AfPRovcD <br />~ /15/o i <br />
