Ms. Erica Crosby
January 11, 2008
Page 3
may require a water filtration and/or softening treatment system to protect downstream
parts, which could reduce the amount and timing of use of the existing water.
Disposals
In conformance with the current reclamation plan for Lyons Quarry, small quantities of
inert kiln brick and concrete were disposed of in C-Pit. The existing reclamation plan
allows for disposal of CKD and the final disposal of concrete and other materials associated
with demolition of the plant. The material disposed of was decommissioned in the late
1980s, and demolished in 2007. Most material from this demolition was metal removed
from site by the demolition contractor for recycling. Asbestoses containing siding was
removed from site by a qualified contractor and disposed of under CDPHE permit
07BO5043N.
Wildlife Monitoring
Consistent with the mining permit and subsequent Technical Revisions, CEMEX has
monitored the C-Pit area daily for signs of wildlife, including the presence of tracks and
wildlife itself. Only pigeons and rabbits were observed in the vicinity of C-Pit. A net was
placed over C-Pit, which was damaged several times in high winds. The vendor designs
indicated the net would be sufficient to withstand snow and wind loadings for this area.
The net has been repaired and replaced several times to prevent wildlife from taking up
residence in C-Pit.
If there are any questions on the above information or the attachments, please contact me
at (303) 823-2115.
Very truly yours,
Monica Sowders, CEMEX
Enc.
Attachments:
1.
