r CL1AX MOLYBOEA JM COMPANY
A unit of AMAX Inc.
June 7, 1990
Mr. Robert Shukle I 5
Colorado Department of Health j( <J pre'r
.-('/Water Quality Control Division KIZ✓ -77` r/
4210 East Eleventh Avenue lam!
Denver, CO 80220
RE: NPDES Permit No. CO-0000248
Dear Mr. Shukle:
At the request of Summit County, the Climax mine is evaluating a proposal
to utilize Snake River WWTP sludge as a soil amendment/modifier to
enhance the native soil which is being used in our Mayflower and other
tailing disposal facility reclamation efforts.
Approval and input from of other state agencies including the Mined Land
Reclamation Division and the Colorado Department of Health has been
requested, however, input from the the Water Quality Control Division has
not been specifically solicited.
It appears, from the sludge analyses and other data that have been
presented, that application of the sludge should not adversely affect the
quality of the water in Tenmile Creek. The sludge composition in
conjunction with the proposed application rate should have minimal
impact, and should not require the inclusion of additional conditions,
parameters, monitoring requirements, or other modifications to the
current NPDES permit .
Copies of the permit application prepared by Black & Veatch Engineering,
and of the minutes of the latest meeting of the principal parties
involved is enclosed for your reference. Please advise us of any
concerns or comments that you, or the Water Quality Control Division may
have relative to any impact this project may have on the water quality of
Tenmile Creek.
erely,
rank.
