Zancanella
o Climax Molybdenum Company
Climax, CO 80429
Re: Application of Municipal Sewage Sludge Mayflower Tailings Area (File
M-77-493),,-
Dear Mr. Zancanella:
I have reviewed your request for a technical revision to Permit No. M-77-493.
The revision application consists of a program for application of wastewater
sludge from the Snake River Waste Water Treatment Plant on the Mayflower
Tailing Deposition Facility. Application of the sludge is considered to be a
beneficial soil conditioning treatment.
I concur with the information presented in the application and the water
quality assessment and recommendations of the Colorado Department of Health.
I offer two comments which should be addressed prior to approval of your ,
request for a technical revision.
1 . Copies of results of crop tissue testing should be submitted to
identify potential plant phyto-toxicity and to verify appropriate
sludge application rates.
2. Please address methods to be used to minimize surface runoff of
sludge effluent during winter months when the sludge may be spread
on frozen or snow-covered ground. How will desired soil mixing be
accomplished during the winter months?
