The attainment designation means that no violations of Colorado or national air quality standards have been documented in the area. that the proposed emissions will not cause significant deterioration of air quality in all areas. The standards for significant deterioration are more. stringent for Class I areas than for Class II. No data is available regarding current ambient >nethane concentrations in air, because methane is not a regulated constituent. PSD Classification The area surrounding the study area is designated a Class II area, as defined by the Federal Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) provision of the Clean Air Act. The PSD Class II designation allows for moderate growth or degradation of air quality within certain limits above baseline air quality. Industrial emission sources proposing construction or modifications must demonstrate Federal./State Mandatory Class I Areas located in the project area include West Elk Wilderness at 10 miles south-southeast and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park approximately 25 >niles southwest of Somerset, Colorado. Due to the nature of the project (i.e., mobile equipment), no specific permit requirements apply to gaseous emissions.
