pond, but there were tadpoles observed on more than one occasion. However, it was not
determined what species of amphibian they were.
There is suitable northern leopard frog habitat along drainages and in a few ponds. Only a
very limited amount of this habitat may be affected by activities associated with the
proposed project.
Sensitive Species - Fish
Colorado River cutthroat trout and Bluehead sucker: There is no suitable aquatic
habitat for either of the species in the project area. No fish are known to occur in any
streams in the project area.
Sensitive Species - Insects
Nokomis fritillary butterfly: None were observed and suitable habitat for this species is
lacking in the project area.
Sensitive Species- Plants
' Rocky Mountain or Adobe Thistle:
There is suitable Rocky Mountain thistle habitat in the project area. Plants were found on
disturbed clay soils at approximately 7700 feet in elevation along a road in the Lick
Creek drainage. This information has been provided to Dave Bradford (USFS).
MANAGEMENT INDICATOR SPECIES
The USDA Forest Service, Region 2, lists eight species, seven terrestrial vertebrates and
common trout, which occur, potentially occur, or habitat for which occurs on this portion
of the Gunnison National Forest as Management Indicator Species (Table 4). The
purpose of this section of the report is to address these species and determine if the
proposed activities are likely to affect any of these species or their habitat within the
project area.
25
