Unknown Inactive Aspen 38 51 08N
107 25 11 W
Great-horned owls were observed in the area, but no young were observed with these
birds.
A Northern harrier male was observed in the Dry Fork drainage, but no females or young
birds were observed during the surveys, which would indicate that nesting had occurred.
There is suitable nesting habitat in the area for this species thus, there is a chance that
nesting could occur.
BIG GAME
Elk, mule deer and black bear are commonly observed in the study area. They have been
frequently observed during previous years studies in the area as well. There are also
suitable conditions in some of the area for mountain lions.
Elk were observed during the May and early part of June studies in mountain shrub and
aspen habitat in the study area. Cow elk with calves were observed in large aspen stands
at higher elevations in early July. By the time studies were completed most elk had
moved on to higher elevations and were observed only infrequently. Some elk do winter
at lower elevations in the project area. Based upon observations much of the area where
development activity is proposed is more in transition range.
Mule deer were not observed in any significant numbers during the period of studies.
There were no specific areas where most were observed. Most were observed later in the
studies and in all habitat types. There is very little mule deer winter range in the study
area and this is limited to lower elevations.
14
