rainfall factor could be assumed for the reclaimed areas, however, this will not be done to <br />be conservative in the estimate. <br />For a discussion of this adjustment to the rainfall factor, see Design Hydrology and <br />Sedimentology of Small Catchments by Han, Barfield and Hayes. <br />Soil Erodibility Factor "K" <br />This is a measure of the soil's susceptibility to erosion. It is dependent upon the soil's <br />resistance to detachment by rainfall and by its ability to absorb water through infiltration. <br />The soil erodibility factor "K", was determined from consultation of the NRCS Soil Survey <br />of San Miguel Area, Colorado. The disturbed area is comprised several different soil types, <br />and a composite of their erodibility factor was calculated for the Universal Soil Loss <br />Equation. <br />The reclaimed soil is primarily the same soil redistributed over the regraded areas after <br />mining. It is similar to the pre-mine soil and should also have the same "K" factor. <br />16
