The revision materials included your signed consent, as the permitted
operator of this mine, to the submittal of this revision:
The 9700 Portal was approved for use during active mining stages of the permit, and is required for
closure in the approved reclamation plan. The portal is known to be dry. It was closed by backfilling
and recontouring with talus rock around the time of the drainage work performed at the 9700 dump.
Under the current proposed revision, the portal is to be reopened for limited access, with a safety door
installed. The reclamation plan still includes the requirement to eventually provide an adequate
closure to this portal.
At this time, the Division has considered your technical revision request, and it has been APPROVED..
Currently, and as of the approval of the previous revision, TR-13, the required bond amount was
reduced to $8,839, which was considered to be sufficient to complete the remaining reclamation. The
current plan requires the operator to continue revegetation establishment, treat noxious weeds, and
control stormwater. This new TR-14 involves additional disturbance whose reclamation costs are not
reflected in the current bond. Therefore, the bond amount was recalculated to include the new costs of
removing the steel culvert and door, and the (more thorough) backfilling of the adit with talus, plus
recontouring and revegetation of the disturbed footprint. The additional reclamation costs are
estimated to be $2,664, bringing the new total bond amount to $11,503.
The earthwork costs are minor, so equipment mobilization became the large cost item. Please see the
enclose reclamation cost packet, and contact me promptly if you note any errors or omissions. The
bond increase must be received and accepted by the Division prior to performing any of the activity
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
