(Page 3)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1986-076
INSPECTION DATE 10/30/08
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO,PSH
example that has been found successful against thistle at high elevation mines recently is named "Milestone." In addition to
possibly deciding on a different weed control chemical, the operator should broadcast some seed on the bare areas to reduce
erosion. Check the approved revegetation plan, and choose one or more species from the approved seed mix. The operator is
salvaging topsoil and stockpiling it in several areas of the permit. The topsoil piles may also benefit from reseeding.
The lower portal area was checked. The roadway did not exhibit as much erosion as in previous years, and the drainage
control appeared better too. The sediment pond at the bottom of the road had been recently cleaned out, to maintain its design
capacity and prevent overtopping. Its spillway should be armored with more rock to prevent downcutting and sediment
transport. No water was leaving the sediment pond as surface flow. The lower portal has a fairly new locking steel door. The
water in the mine is impounded and pumped up to the holding tank at the mill. The impounded water is also where the required
seasonal groundwater samples are taken. (Note: The "Cabin" site farther down the gulch where surface water samples are
taken was not inspected.)
The bond was recalculated a few years ago, and it is still considered adequate.
The operator is reminded that all mining, reclamation, and weed control activities should be included in the annual reports.
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to this inspector
at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 691 County Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, Colorado 81301. (Please note:
As of 7/1/08 the Durango Field Office is at the new address shown above. Please revise your records as necessary.)
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
cc: Steve Shuey, DBMS
?
