Rational for Approval of Conversion Application Over Objection;
112 Construction Materials Conversion Application
Brent Pit, Permit No. M-1978-072
November 13th, 2008
Introduction
This document is intended to provide a basis for the Division's recommendation for approval of the
application over the objection raised to the Brent Pit Permit Conversion Application, File No. M-1978-
072.
The conversion application was submitted by Lincoln County and was considered filed on September 2°d,
2008. This site is located seven miles north and one mile west of the town of Arriba, Colorado in Lincoln
County. The property is located in the NW '/4 of the NW '/4 of Section 1, Township 8 South, Range 53
West, and is west of the Sixth Principal Meridian.
Currently, the site consists of 9.2 acres most of which has been mined and partially reclaimed by Lincoln
County. The applicant would like to add 4.96 acres to the permit area. The current mining operation is
contained in the eastern portion of the proposed permit area and south of Hell Creek, the acreage to be
added lies west of the current excavation.
At this time, the county is mining the remaining material from the south west portion of the mine site.
This conversion would allow the county to continue to mine the material remaining on their property.
According to their mine plan, they will use a tracked dozer or front-end loader to push the material from
the west into a stockpile on the eastern side of the permit boundary. The post mine land use for this site is
designated as Rangeland.
1.
