The following seed mix is recommended for your temporary stockpile sites. The seedbed shall be well settled and
firm, but friable enough that seed can be drilled at -1/2" seeding depth.
Soils that have been over-compacted by traffic or equipment, especially
when wet, should be tilled to break up root restricting layers, then harrowed,
rolled or packed to prepare the required firm seedbed. The seedbed shall be
reasonably free of weeds. Control competitive stands of weeds that are
present before seeding by shallow tillage or by application of herbicides
labeled for this purpose. Fertilizer is not recommended. Mulch with weed-
free wheat straw and crimp into place. Control weeds by mowing, do not
use herbicides the first year.
Please contact us if you have any questions or we can provide any additional information.
Ellen Nelson
West Greeley Conservation District
Technician - Conservation & Education
4302 W 9th St Rd
Greeley CO 80634
elien.nelson@wgcd.org
office: (970) 356-8097 x 3
cell: (970) 518-6867
West Greeley Conservation District rage s or .s
\\Server\client files\EskewBrenAEskewBrent090508.doc
