•
EXHIBIT Q - Company Sponsored/Co-sponsored Research
Since 1964, the Climax Molybdenum Company and AMAX Inc. have
sponsored or co-sponsored numerous reclamation oriented research
projects with state and federal agencies, universities, col-
leges, and private organizations. These research programs have
included projects regarding the stabilization and revegetation
of disturbed sites in high altitude environments , wildlife
surveys, technical assistance, silvicultural research, and
information dissemination. The premises and rationale for the
specific reclamation technologies utilized at the Climax Mine
and at many other unrelated high altitude sites have their
origins in the research data developed from projects on the
Climax property. Although some programs have been terminated
and some research plots and areas have been inundated or other-
wise destroyed over the years , many of the project plots still
exist.
Attempts by several knowledgeable individuals during the past
six years to develop a comprehensive and chronological listing
of the various research projects have met with limited success.
Presently, the two best discussions of the various projects are
in Barrau and Berg ( 1977 ) (see attached references ) and in
Section 9. 0 of the current Climax Mining and Reclamation Permit.
Both of these documents (as well as other Climax research pro-
ject results ) are on file with the Colorado Mined Land Reclama-
tion Division and are incorporated into this amendment by
reference. In addition, those research plots/areas which could
be located and documented have been added to the map entitled
"Climax Mine - Interim and Final Reclamation. . . " (Appendix C) .
This map addition should aid the reviewer in cross referencing
research locations with the discussions in the aforementioned
documents .
Q-1
