•
EXHIBIT G - Water Information
Water and flood control information is presented in Section 8 of
the existing Climax permit. With several exceptions, this in-
formation remains valid and is unchanged. However, due to the
importance and complexity of this issue, the entire section is
rewritten herein for this amendment.
As stated previously, the property owned by Climax encompasses
the headwaters of three watersheds : the East Fork of the
Arkansas River, the East Fork of the Eagle River, and the East
Fork of Tenmile Creek. The East Fork of Tenmile Creek includes
tributaries Kokomo Creek and Searle Creek from the west and
McNulty Gulch, Clinton Creek, Mayflower Creek, and Humbug Creek
from the east. The Climax property site map (Appendix A) and
the map of affected lands (Appendix B ) show the locations of
tributary water courses, permanent water storage sites, water
handling facilities, and ground water monitoring wells .
Climax Water Rights
Climax owns numerous water rights which historically have been
used for operations . These decreed rights (Table 1 ) are
extremely varied, and include transbasin rights, direct flow
rights, developed rights, and storage rights. They are con-
sidered a major asset of the company . Climax ' s rights and
facilities are more than sufficient both physically and legally
to satisfy all requirements for any development and operational
scenario presented herein without causing injury to holders of
senior water rights. Although there are no definite plans at
present, additional reservoir sites exist within the property
boundary, and additional permanent water storage on the mine
property may become a reality in the future. The mine has the
capability to divert and store water both in its present perma-
nent water storage impoundments (Appendix D; Map ID area F ) and
in potential future permanent water storage areas. Water avail-
ability information is presented in Table 2.
Water Requirements
During periods of operation, domestic water requirements vary
widely up to approximately 700 gallons per minute (gpm) . Mining
and drilling requirements are up to about 75 gpm, while the
milling circuit requires a circulating water flow at a rate of
approximately 650 gallons per ton of ore milled . Reclaimed
areas have not been irrigated in the past, nor is irrigation
. anticipated or planned for interim or final reclamation work in
the future. Natural precipitation at the mine site is adequate
for plant germination and survival.
G-1
