Adequacy Review #5
Queation#1"Adequacy review #4 requested that the applicant provide a geologic map of the
mine and surrounding areas that shows all geologic and lithologic units and all possible geologic
structures that could act either as conduits or barriers to ground water flow. Please provide the
requested map."
Response: COAG Corporation misunderstood based on our August mine site meeting and
thought that this item was not required. We have provided this information, please see the
attached maps.
Question #2-"Adequacy review #4 requested a map that shows to the satisfaction of the Division
the presence or lack of interconnection with workings of other mines outside the surface
footprint of the NOI area of work. On the map of the mine workings provided in your response
of October 12, a drift (tunnel) is shown that leads in a northwesterly direction away from the
Freighter's Shaft and is open-ended, suggesting connection with additional underground
workings off site. Please describe the underground workings that are located in that direction,
and please plot on a UAGS topographical map or equivalent describing or identifying any
connections to surface openings and provide description of the conditions of the opening(s), e.g.
intact, collapsed, sealed, etc."
Response: This is a new adequacy question, at least in part. We are enclosing an additional
set of maps that extends the area of map workings. This should provide the Division the
necessary information. The previously submitted map that show "Profile View" and "Map
View" on the same sheet, shows a workings that trends to the northwest and continues off the
map sheet. The enclosed additional maps titled "Franklin Cons. Mining Co. and labeled "21"
show that drift ending about 100 or so feet to the northwest. (It is marked on the maps with the
letter "A".) In addition, that drift is at the 6th level or 8342 feet MSL, while the intended bulk
sampling area is on level 9, approximately 8013 feet MSL. This indicates that the drift in
question is approximately 300 feet above the intended bulk sampling area. It would therefore be
unlikely that any bulk sampling by COAG Corporation in the target area (level 9) will affect any
discharges that might occur from the drifts located above level 9.
In addition, the region proposed for bulk sampling is approximately at level 9. However, the
level 9 workings do not appear to be continuous across the mapped area. (We do not have
additional maps of mine workings that go beyond this point.) The enclosed workings maps
show all other workings ending underground with no surface expression.
The bulk sampling area indicated on the newly provided workings maps is not intended to
represent any type of prospect permit limit. It shows the approximate region where bulk samples
will be taken.
The enclosed workings maps indicates that the level 9 workings intermittently extend
approximately 2400 ft. in the direction of the Gem Mine at an elevation of approximately 8050
feet MSL. At that elevation and approximately 2400 ft. from the Freighter's Friend Shaft, the
