Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This processing and loadout site has been
inactive since June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). Ground
conditions on this day were dry and the weather was warm and mild.
Support Facilities
The operator has begun to develop the location to drill a borehole to the workings to dewater
the flooded mine workings. Surface casing down to bedrock has been set. Power for the
dewatering site is currently being established for a 350-HP downhole pump. Electrical
contract workers were discussing options regarding locations for power lines and electrical
structures.
pf
I
Revegetation
Reclaimed areas look in excellent condition due to abundant late summer rains and mild fall
weather. The growing season has effectively ended due to numerous frosts.
3
