Christy Woodward
September 17, 2008
Page 12
monitoring well, if necessary. If the well is pumped dry prior to stabilizing
parameters, purging is considered complete.
After completion of purging, adequate time for well recharge may be required prior to
sampling. Sample containers will be filled from the well pipe discharge if free-flowing or
using the peristaltic pump apparatus. After collection of samples, samples will be
immediately placed on ice, with exception to tritium samples. Cooling of tritium samples may
have an adverse effect on the accuracy of the tritium reading. All sample bottles will be filled
completely so that no air space is present. Dedicated tubing will be used for each sample
collected; therefore, no equipment decontamination is required.
The naming system for groundwater sampling will begin with the year and site abbreviation
(i.e. 08DM indicates the sample was collected in 2008, at Denison Mines). The second character
set of the sample identification will identify the sample location (i.e. monitoring well name
such as MW01). The third character set represents the type of sample (i.e. R for a regular field
sample and D for a duplicate sample). The final number represents the date of sampling. The
following is an example of a sample number: 08DM-MW01-N-0903
08DM = 2008, Denison Mines
MW01 = Monitoring well and well number
N = Regular•sample
0903 = 9th month, 3,d day
After collection of samples, labels should be filled out with the sample identification number
detailed above. 411 sample bottles from each well should be placed together in large zip lock
or sealed garbage bags to protect the label from moisture damage. Fill out laboratory chain of
custody form and submit samples to the laboratory for analyses identified in Table 2. Samples
should be shipped to the laboratory immediately upon collection (i.e. daily for overnight
delivery) given that some constituent "holding times are only 48 hours.
Data Assessment
This section discusses the'data assessment techniques that will be used to evaluate site data to
achieve the objectives` of the work plan. These objectives include:
¦ Evaluate ambient groundwater quality;
¦ Evaluate the effect of current underground mining operations on groundwater quality and
the persistence of potential affects downgradient from underground mine workings.
