• For all future measurements of the new Juniper Woodland Reference Area to be
used for success determination the following adjustments shall occur:
The mean ground cover shall be "adjusted" upward by the multiplication
factor of 1.426 and mean herbaceous production shall be "adjusted"
downward by the multiplication factor of 0.971.
• The annual/biennial cover component in excess of 37% relative cover
and annual/biennial herbaceous production component in excess of 55%
relative production shall be deleted from the reclaimed area data, prior to
success demonstration comparison for cover and production.
For all future measurements of the old Mountain Shrub Reference Area to be
used for success determination, mean ground cover shall be "adjusted"
downward by the multiplication factor of 0.910 and mean herbaceous production
shall be "adjusted" downward by the multiplication factor of 0.418.
In effect, this procedure will facilitate a "comparison" or "control" area style evaluation
whereby the original baseline data are utilized to adjust the reference area mean (given the
aforementioned ratios), and differences over time due to climatic influences will still be accounted
for by changes in reference area data. This procedure is recommended because the next best
alternative (standards) is still not available for use. To help avoid confusion, the following
• example is provided to demonstrate the determination of a single, acreage-weighted "baseline-
adjusted" value that revegetation area ground cover might have to achieve.
Example future success criterion for a ground cover comparison
Pre-Mine Community
Parameter/Adj.
