inch polyethylene LP line will be buried from the tank to the new bathhouse, and will include a vaporizer located
some 50 feet from the tank.
The Fish Creek Borehole Area will be used for discharging mine water. Facilities to be constructed at the Fish
Creek Borehole Area are shown on the following maps;
Map 26, Fish Creek Borehole Area Facilities and Access Road
Map 27, Fish Creek Borehole Area Access Road Profile
Map 28, Fish Creek Borehole Area Access Road Profile and Typical Cross-Sections
Map 32, Fish Creek Borehole Settling Pond Plan view and Cross-Sections
The mine water discharge boreholes will be required in 1989. Total disturbed area required for the above facilities
would be less than 10 acres. Access to the sites would be as shown on Map 29, Reclamation.
Standard maintenance procedures, such as preventive maintenance programs, painting, and lubrication shall be
utilized throughout the life of all the structures. All facilities will be removed, and the area reclaimed to its original
use at the completion of mining activities, except to the extent that alternative postmining land uses are approved.
EASTERN AND NORTHERN MINING DISTRICTS
Mining in the Eastern and Northern Mining Districts (EMD/NMD) required installation of a new dewatering
facility and three fans. One of the fans (0-Entry Fan -Robinson 85,000cfin) was installed in the 0-Entry,
approximately 600-800 feet inby the portal mouth (MR94-107). The location of this fan places it within the current
Surface Facilities area, therefore, no new disturbance was associated with fan installation. The approximate
location of the fan is on the bench between the Stoker Coal Storage and Materials Storage areas, as shown on Map
23. This fan is of similar size and capacity as the existing main mine fan.
• Two additional fans (EMD Fan Installation -Jeffrey 600,000cfin and Industrial Air 150,000cfm) were installed in
1996-1997. The location of the fans is shown on Maps 17A, 18A, and 23. The fans were installed at the end of the
9-Right Panel, and are used to augment the main mine fans. Installation of the fans required construction of an
access road into the site, installation of a diversion ditch upslope of the construction site, establishment of a topsoil
stockpile, grading of a construction site, extension of the existing powerline to the site, boring of ventilation shafts,
and installation of the fans and associated ancillary equipment. Approximately 2 acres were disturbed in
conjunction with upgrades to, and extension of, the road and construction of the fan site.
A new dewatering facility was constructed in 1995-1996 at the location shown on Maps 17A, 18A, and 23. The
facility is located above the lowest point in the EMD. The facility currently consists of an access road, dewatering
well (TORT Dewatering Well No. 1), substation and powerline, although the permitted facilities for this site also
include a water line leading to settling ponds, two settling ponds, an aeration channel, control building, and
discharge point. At the.present time, flows from the dewatering borehole are piped by the Mine Water Return Line
back to the Mine. As permitted, the flow from the pond could be pumped from settling ponds to Foidel Creek in a
buried line. At such time as the settling ponds and discharge point are established, a discharge permit application
will be filed with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to allow discharge from this facility.
As permitted, this facility would be similar to the Fish Creek dewatering borehole system. Approximately 3.4 acres
would be disturbed under a full construction scenario for construction of this facility and its associated access road.
Mine Water Return Line and 6MN Mine Water Feed Line (MR07-2241
A water line was installed from the EMD dewatering facility to FCM-2 to route water back into the mine for
underground operations. The location of this water line is shown on Figure 16I, 1996 Seismic Lines and Mine
Water Discharge Return Line, East Mine District. Approximately 7,300 feet of 8-inch HDPE pipe was buried at 5
. to 6 feet below grade from the dewatering facility to FCM-2. This pipe will be left in place when no longer needed
to support ongoing mining and related operations.
MR08-228 2.05-55 03/06/08
